Wisconsin must make a lot of money off of telemarketing companies. Nobody on the planet except for telemarketer PR scum opposes do-not-call lists. Everybody has had their lives disrupted and disturbed by telemarketers trying to convince you that getting sodomized by Verizon is better than getting skull-fucked by Sprint. Even Saddam Hussein, the most evil man ever, is opposed to telemarketers. Every night he sleeps at a different palace, but still the callers find him. He is all for do-not-call lists.
If only people bought by telemarketer scum oppose do-not-call lists, why did Wisconsin Attorney General Jim Doyle oppose the federal do-not-call registry? According to the syllogism, it's because he's been bought by telemarketer scum. Over the years, I've gotten used to having my politicians bought by tobacco companies, defense contractors, agribusiness, pharmaceutical companies, detroit car manufacturers and all manner of polluters, infecters, and exploiters. I've accepted that this is the foundation of American life, and besides, every single one of those industries contributes to my well being in some way, however small.
But telemarketers? The only thing telemarketers bring to my life is the little bit of satisfaction I get from putting them on perpetual hold after telling them I'm definitely interested in what they're selling. It's a perverse and juvenile pleasure, and if I did it to anybody else, I might be ashamed.
Telemarketers are so bad, even the FTC wants to shut them down. Starting tomorrow, you can register for the federal do-not-call registry. It comes backed by a $11,000 fine per incident, which is pretty hefty, even if a more appropriate punishment would involve mutilation of sexual organs. It's a start.
Telemarketers, of course, have complained that the registry will devastate their industry and send ripples through the economy. I'd answer that call to arms, but I'm too busy having a peaceful, uninterrupted dinner.

Insurance brokers are generally terrible. Some are large offices dominated by beauracracy, faceless profiteering and zero flexibility. Most of the rest are small offices noted more for incompetence and lack of speed than their rates.
There are, however, exceptions, and I have found one. I have found the good people at Handwerger & Sons. Not only are they the cheapest option around, they are the least hassle operatoin I've ever dealt with. Good, friendly, polite people that return phone calls and are willing to work with your needs.
When I bought a new motorcycle, I needed fast insurance, and they hooked that up for me, turning around my paperwork and faxing me my cards right away so I could ride legal in no time at all. I highly recommend them.
